GLASS TYPES
As a rule we generally have available four types of glass, N-BK7, F2, LF5, and S8. In addition, we often get access to similar glasses that we may offer at substantial discounts because they are manufacturer close-outs. From time to time we also offer colored glasses; however, these are not part of our standard product line.

The potential range of applications for these glasses covers a wide area, including cold working, casting, paté de verre, slumping, fusing, and encapsulation. The following paragraphs explain the most significant properties of these glasses and discuss their applications.

OPTIC CRYSTAL
The following glasses are generally available in strip, gob, block, bar, and rolled sheet form in various dimensions.

N-BK7 is a borosilicate crown glass with a coefficient of expansion of 83. It is a hard, scratch-resistant glass which renders is suitable for cold working. It is frequently melted and is readily available in a multitude of dimensions.

LF5 is approximately 35% lead by weight content. It is among the clearest glasses that Glass Brokers, Inc. offers. It is softer than N-BK7, but harder than glasses with higher lead content. It lends itself to cold working and hot and warm applications, such as casting, fusing, and paté de verre.

F2 is a high lead containing glass (approximately 45%). It is especially suited for casting. F2 is characterized by a low viscosity at casting temperatures, low annealing and strain points, high refractive index and dispersion with extreme clarity. It has acceptable cold working characteristics.

ENCAPSULATION GLASS
S8 is a low softening temperature crown glass that serves as an excellent encapsulation medium for use in paperweights and other flame working applications. It is available in gob form in 150, 300, 400, and 550 gram versions.
